A multi‐temporal satellite‐based risk analysis of archaeological sites in Qazvin plain (Iran)

Abstract In recent decades, we have witnessed a dramatic increase in the risks and damages to archaeological sites heritage places across globe. By analysing case study (the Qazvin plain) northern Iran, propose classification of types assess impact each type over last 40 years (1980s–2020s). Our research methodology consists cross‐correlated multi‐temporal analysis different sets satellite imagery with 167 plain determine types, extension evolution time. This allowed develop three‐tier hierarchical framework based on drivers, threats, actions jeopardizing cultural region. The result this permits overturn current narratives inferring that most impacting are caused by natural hazards, looting violent destruction rather than agricultural activity or construction.
